# Your Personality Number

Most Numerologists would consider your three most important numbers to be first your Life Path Number, based on your date of birth, and then your Destiny Number (also called the Expression Number) and Soul Urge Number (also called the Heart’s Desire Number), both calculated from your full name given to you by your parents.

Also quite important is your Personality Number.

Your Personality Number is how people perceive you when they first meet you. It is sometimes called the Outer Personality Number, and you can think of it as a narrow gateway to your true self as described in part by your Life Path, Destiny, and Soul Urge Numbers.

Just like your Destiny and Soul Urge Numbers, it is based on your full name at date of birth, the one given to you by your parents. It is not based on your married name, nick name, or other names.

You may know that your Soul Urge Number is based on the vowels on your full name, “a” “e” “i” “o” “u” and sometimes “y” – when it is used as a vowel.

Similarly, your Personality Number is based on the consonants in your full name. A full reading will calculate and interpret your Personality Number where a free one may not, but it’s easy to do yourself.

So, is “y” a vowel or a consonant? It depends! Just as we said before:

“Y” is a consonant when

- When “y” is used instead of a soft “j” sound as in Yamaha, Yanni, and Yoda.
- When “y” is the second vowel in a row and has its own vowel sound like in Hayley, Kenney, and Layla.

“Y” is a vowel when

- When “y” is the only vowel in the syllable like Mary, Betty, and Ely.
- When “y” serves and sounds like a vowel in names like Yvette and Cyrus
- When “y” comes right before another vowel and sounds like one as in Wyatt and Bryan.

We will use the name **“James Gilmore Backus”**

The consonants are** “jms glmr bcks”**

As before, the values for the letters are as follow:

- A, J, and S are “1”
- B, K, and T are “2”
- C, L, and U are “3”
- D, M and V are “4”
- E, N, and W are “5”
- F, O, and X are “6”
- G, P and Y are “7”
- H, Q, and Z are “8”
- I and R and “9”

First name **jms **is 1+4+1 which equals 6

Middle name **glmr **is 7+3+4+9 which equals 23. We add the digits, 2+3 which equals 5

Last name** bcks** is 2+3+2+1 which equals 8

We now add the number from each of the names, first, middle, and last: 6+5+8 which equals 19.

We reduce by adding the digits, 1+9 which equals 10.

We further reduce by adding those digits, 1+0 which equals 1

James Gilmore Backus has a Personality Number of 1.

So what does a Personality Number of 1 indicate. Remember, this is how you appear to people you do not know well: In control, full of energy, very capable, highly motivated, and creative.

I never knew the personality number and the outer personality number are the same. Thanks for explaining this is simple terms that anyone, even me, can follow.

The other explanations I found online were either confusing or left things out (such as when is “y” a consonant!).
